Criteria for freelance translators

• College education in English language. Additional traincng in technical area would be an advantage.
• Professional experience in translation. Experience in specialised subject areas would be favourable.
• Strong attention to details.
• Clear, concise and confident interpersonal communications skills.
• Good inctiative, tenacity and a team player.
• Well conversant in Internet access, Microsoft Word and Excel are essential.
• Knowledge of PowerPoint and other Windows-based software would be an advantage.
• Sensitive to the appropriate and correct use of vocabulary, grammar and style.
• Ability to adhere to terminology specified by the client.
• Commitment to punctuality.

Note:
In-house translators need to be self-motivated, professionally matured and have translation experience equivalent to at least two years of professional work experience (30 hours per week or more) over the last 4 years.

Criteria for proof readers
We recruit students or graduates in foreign languages, who are totally fluent in at least one foreign language.  Potential applicants should have an excellent command of grammar and spelling in their mother tongue and an eye for detail.  Proofreaders will only be asked to proof read translations into their mother tongue.

Criteria for transcheckers
Work will be allocated according to background (social status, education, profession, age, gender etc).  Therefore, qualifications in foreign languages are not a pre-requisite.  However, availability to return work by fax/e-mail at short notice, a professional attitude and eye for detail are essential.  Anyone whose mother tongue is not English will be considered for TransCheck work.
